New MD for Sirane Medical & Healthcare division

A NEW MD has been appointed to Sirane’s Medical & Healthcare division as the company looks to expand – with a dedicated manufacturing facility also planned within the next 12 months.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sirane sales director, has been appointed to the role of managing director in the medical & healthcare division to spearhead the expansion and grow the business.

A stand-alone medical & healthcare manufacturing unit and offices elsewhere in Telford will allow the company to increase production as well as look at adding additional product ranges.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies said: “The medical and healthcare sector offers Sirane a great opportunity, and so I am very excited to be given the chance to be the person to move the division forward.

“With an already great range of products, and a new manufacturing site on the way, it’s a great time to be involved, and we’ve got plans to really grow a thriving and distinct division.

“With our expertise as a company in absorbency, material science and product development, there’s plenty of products we can already offer, as well as many more yet-to-be developed.”

Sirane is a manufacturing, design and product-development company which is based in Telford, Shropshire, and is Europe’s market leader in absorbent products. We have a network of agents and distributors, and our medical & healthcare products are sold both in the UK & overseas.

Our medical & healthcare product range includes consumables such as absorbent non-slip disposable floor mats, absorbent tourniquet drapes and absorbent products for use in dental surgery. We also manufacture products for compliant specimen transportation, including 95 kPa bags, absorbents for use in the funeral/mortuary world, and spillage protection for use in labs.

Some of the items – such as absorbent non-slip disposable floor mats which are used in operating theatres, scrub areas etc – are available from stock and delivered in just 48 hours.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies said: “Disposable items, delivered quickly from stock, is a big part of our business plan for the division, but we’ll still be looking to offer bespoke items and develop new products – whatever the client’s needs are, as a company we’ll be able to help.

“While some of our products are very much standardised, as a company Sirane has always prided itself on being able to make exactly what the customer wants, not just what we want to make. And anyway, at Sirane we believe we don’t make standard products, we make great products!

“The hard-work very much starts here. As managing director, I’ll be looking to be as involved as possible, and I am very much looking forward to getting out and visiting potential customers. There’s already a very strong medical & healthcare sales team, so I am setting challenging targets…”

Absorbent non-slip floor mat is highly effective AND cost effective

SIRANE’S non-slip absorbent floor mats are now being supplied directly into the NHS – offering a disposable mat which is both highly effective and cost-effective at the same time.

Buying from Sirane allows you to deal directly with the manufacturer, and buy an efficient solution to excess fluid in a variety of healthcare situations at a sensible price. We believe they’re the best product on the market – and recent feedback would seem to back our opinion.

Jonathan Mason, business development manager, said: “Sirane’s floor mats are a fantastic product, and we’ve had some amazing feedback from hospitals using the mats already.

“We’ve studied the market, and made sure we can distribute this product in the way the NHS requires – and are now able with 48-hour delivery from stock on popular sizes.”

An economical and effective way of keeping floors clean, dry and slip-free... our absorbent floor mats are ideal for use in operating room procedures; during transplants; in scrub areas; in emergency room areas, and in laboratories. They don't expand or swell, and once wet the product holds to the surface... moreover, they can be thrown down onto surfaces which are already wet.

“The mats have two distinct sides – one is highly absorbent, the reverse is a perforated non-slip surface which holds to the floor through a capillary action,” added Mr Mason, “and because it holds in place, the surgeon can stand safely directly on the mat.”

Our standard size is 1000x600, with 3-litre absorbency per sq m, which is available on a 48-hour delivery. Other sizes and absorbency levels are potentially available on request.

Some key points are

- Reduces risk of slipping on wet floors
- Reduces the risks of cross-infection
- Each mat can hold a large amount of fluid
- Non-slip and will not expand or swell
- Can be used safely in wet & dry areas
- Eliminates time-consuming clean-up
- Delivery within 48 hours
- Users can stand directly on the mat

Sirane Medical & Healthcare welcomes new team member

SIRANE Medical & Healthcare has welcomed a new sales team member as the company looks to capitalise on an expanded product range and an increasing level of inquiries.

James Hemmings will already be well known to many people in the medical and healthcare sector, having worked in sales for many years, selling into numerous sectors.

Sirane Medical & Healthcare division’s range of products has seen a number of recent additions – including absorbent mortuary products, incontinence sheets & liners, SafetyGel super absorbent products, nylon autoclaving pouches and medical waste bags.

These new additions complement the existing range of products including diagnostic specimen transportation packaging, disposables including tourniquet drapes, non-slip theatre mats and saliva absorbers, and absorbent spillage protection with BenchGuard.

Jonathan Mason, business development manager, said: “Sirane’s Medical & Healthcare product range is expanding, and we’re receiving many varied inquiries, and so we are particularly pleased to welcome James to the team, he will be kept very busy!

“As a company we have a number of specialisms, including absorbency and working with nylon materials, and the new products in the range reflect the work we do. James will be selling existing products, as well as working with companies to identify new ones.

“We have introduced a range of mortuary/funeral absorbents, for example, in which we can offer pads, mortuary liners, coffin liner, casket liners and absorbent wadding. However, we can also integrate odour-control and anti-bacterial properties, so we’re able to use the company’s expertise to offer products that are not currently on the market.”

Sirane’s specialism in absorbency is also the key to the range of incontinence sheets/ liners, which like the mortuary products, are available in a range of shapes/sizes/absorbency levels, as well as being the foundation of most of the medical division’s original and long-established products such as absorbent theatre mats and saliva absorbers.

Jonathan Mason added: “Our work with nylon has seen us add nylon medical/dental autoclaving/sterilisation pouches and bags – nylon offers superior abrasion and tear resistance – and nylon bags for the safe disposal of medical waste.

“And of course we still have our existing range, which we continue to develop, including a suite of diagnostic specimen transportation solutions under the Safe-Hold™ banner.”

Sirane’s range of Safe-Hold™ products are designed to ensure full compliance with legislation surrounding specimen transportation – removing the risks associated with packaging failure.

Safe-Hold™ offers a range of absorbent solutions – including pads, pouches and 95 kPa bags – which will enable the user to meet guidelines such as Packing Instruction 650. Sirane can offer fully tested and approved 95 kPa bags in sizes up to and including A4.

Safe-hold™ absorbent pads and pouches are available in a wide range of sizes with absorbency levels calculated to meet all requirements. They are available with a leak-proof adhesive closure, puncture resistance, printed tracking information and other features.

Pharma Expo next week: Sirane takes medical product range to North America

SIRANE’S medical and healthcare products will be exhibited across the Atlantic for the first time next week – with final preparations underway for Pharma Expo in Las Vegas.

We’ll be taking a range of medical and healthcare products, including absorbent products, specimen transportation products, surface protection and some advanced solutions.

Pharma Expo is co-hosted at Pack Expo, one of North America’s largest trade shows. Pack Expo is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from September 28-30. Pharma Expo would be a sizeable show in its own right – 2014 saw 262 exhibitors over 60,000 sq ft.

Adam Green, president, Sirane North America, said: “Sirane’s expertise in areas such as absorbency and material science means that we have some very exciting and innovative products to introduce to the North American market for the first time.

“Pharma Expo and Pack Expo is a terrific show, and a great place for us to show off our medical and healthcare range for the first time in the US. With the expo now so close, we’re starting to get excited. Products such as BenchGuard Advanced and Sira-Care DiffX, as well as some of our other absorbent products, should provoke some real interest.”

BenchGuard® Advanced offers the ultimate bench protection for laboratories, hospitals, surgeries and other clinical environments where high absorbency and sterile surface protection is required. It has a highly absorbent surface and an effective liquid barrier layer to ensure that spillages are contained and protect the work top.

Jonathan Mason, Sirane’s business development manager, said: “BenchGuard® Advanced is an absorbent, impermeable faced cellulosic fabric suitable for protection of laboratory benches and similar surfaces from spillage. It should prove very popular in the US.”

BenchGuard® Advanced is strong and tear resistant even when wet and its flat smooth surface can be written on with pencil or ink. Used BenchGuard® Advanced can be readily disposed of after use and its clean composition means that it is suitable for incineration.

BenchGuard® Advanced is available in pre-cut sheets of various sizes and also in reel/roll format. It is also available with adhesive strips, preventing movement on the work bench.

Meanwhile, hospital and healthcare providers looking to save money can do so by using a powerful new disinfection system which both cleans and disinfects at the same time.

Sira-Care DiffX eliminates all surface contamination 100% and has the potential to not only revolutionise global infection control but also contribute significant financial saving. It is already used by an ever-growing number of NHS hospitals in the UK.

“When used as part of a cleaning regime it both cleans and disinfects at the same time, so there is a clear time saving,” said Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, “but it can also save money by keeping wards clean, disinfected and infection free, reducing lost bed days, the cost of decontamination, cost of antibiotics and treatments, staff sickness and agency staff.

“As it is non-corrosive it also maximises equipment use – again, leading to financial savings.”

An exciting addition to Sirane’s already popular Sira-Care range, the company is already working on providing the product in new formats to complement the existing range – the first of which is hoped will be producing a pack of Sira-Care DiffX handy wipes.

Sira-Care DiffX truly represents a new generation of infection control. It is non-chlorine-based, non-corrosive, cleans and disinfects at the same time, and eliminates all surface contamination – including MRSA and viruses, C Diff spores, Norovirus, TB and Mycrobacteria.

Other products which will be on show at Pharma Expo include disposable absorbent non-slip theatre mats (OR mats), specimen transportation solutions including bags, pads and multi-bay pouches, 95 kPa bags, and active pouches for disabling potentially harmful drugs.

Sirane also manufactures absorbent products for use in dental surgery, including saliva absorbers – sold under the Tongue n Cheek brand - and extraction packs.

The company’s medical and healthcare division also manufactures many more absorbent products, including coffin and mortuary liners, absorbent wadding and incontinence liners.

Sirane is a highly innovative product development-to-manufacture company based in Telford, Shropshire. It has four divisions: food packaging; medical and healthcare; industrial and horticultural. The company can supply anywhere across the world.
